[edit] General Strategies
im going to mainly talk about the 5 modes of play i mainly stick with. TDM/Domination (aka ground war) Sabotage/Seek and Destroy (they are similar) and Headquarters. These strats will work in most modes, but the way i personally play, they excel for these specific modes, Ill talk about search and destroy and team hardcore later on, i just dont play them as much.
i know some of these will be pretty damn basic common sense strategies here, but it's worth repeating.
- 1- Try Play the game like Quake for TDM/Domination/Headquarters/Sabotage.
im not fucking kidding. If you dont have the tools to be all stealthy (silencer, UAV jammer, Dead silence) then dont bother. I really really dont understand how i get away with some of the stuff i do in this game, but i do... and it's pretty much because i play the game like it was quake. Fast paced, fast action, i dont give a fuck about dying so i charge on in.
This isnt ghost recon, this isnt R6. Just fucking RUN AND GUN. It honestly works.
- 2 Always be on the move. Standing still pretty much means you are going to die REALLY fucking soon. Dont worry about hiding behind cover, because as you already know it's pretty damn pointless to hide behind most cover besides trying to hide..... If you wanna sit by and lay out a trap (aka camping) then by all means... do it. All the levels have SOME sort of way to get out of being camped, sometimes you can escape on your own, sometimes you might need a BIT of teamwork to get out of a sticky situation. Also helps to have a smoke grenade handy (most UNDER used grenade in the game) to escape.
Either way, move, run, shoot... fire from the hip if you must from time to time. Just dont stay stationary for too long.
- 3 Utilize the kill camera and sounds to your advantage. The kill camera in this game is absolutely fucking brilliant (you do not get a kill camera in team hardcore btw). If you got sniped or camped... you know where they are at so you can lay down the pain when you respawn. I dont know how many times over and over and over again ive rushed people that just refused to move (see point #2) after they killed someone. Sometimes ive stayed in the same spot to kill a bunch of n00bs (see point 2 again) but damn, after i get that UAV im running away to a new spot. Even if it's like 1 dumpster over in terms of cover.... chances are youll find that one determined fool to try to run to your old spot, while you have a new spot to catch that fool. Get runnin when the runnin is good.
As for the sounds, well im sure most of you have a p1mping home theater. COD4's sounds (just like all the COD games) have amazing crisp sound. Listen for people, listen to them move.... you can hear someone running/walking from a bit away. You can NAIL lots of careless players like this. Again, guys who crouch walk or are using dead silence...well they seem to be few and far between in these modes im talking about.
- 4 Learn your weapons and maps. Seriously basic stuff here folks. However with all the perks and various things you can add to the weapons will alter their handling or whatever a bit. Just learn the basic weapons, their ranges, their basic power ect ect.
Just gotta remember, some maps are not played in all modes. So youll get something like sabotage on Wetworks, but you wont play Wetworks on TDM or Groundwar. DEFINETLY make custom classes for certain maps and load outs. Personally, i dont want a SMG with shit range on Overgrown, but hell i know lots of people just cant give up their shitty Scorpion for some reason, ok i know the reason, they want their gold AK 47.. but still... if some jackass on my team is using a useless gun like that on overgrown, they're going to hear about it.
[edit] Perks and Custom Classes/Weapons
there is no mysterious perk after you reach prestige lvl 10. Lets get this out of the way. You get nothing. Of course, this is only on the 360.
as for the perks themselves, it's really up to how you personally play.... but fuck that, you're going to hear about how much I fucking rule, so this is what i use. ill kinda rank them on their usefulness w/ descriptions.
[edit] Perk 1 Tier
sadly... most of these perks totally fucking suck. Which is why i dont miss them when im using a grip or grenade launcher. Actually, the only perk worth a flying shit in this entire tier is the Claymores. OR the 3x Frag grenades that plus sonic boom perk and your grenades will turn into mortar rounds. Excellent!
Bomb Squad
- C4 x 2 - meh, i dont use them. In deathmatch they are basically useless. Kinda good in team games though since everyone is looking out for claymores instead of C4. So it's tricky to use this in search and destroy or something.
- Claymore x 2 - My favorite tier 1 perk, should be used in almost all of your builds. Just remember to HIDE them good. Make sure if you are turning a corner, that the enemy has NO chance to escape. In fact, put the claymores back a few feet from a doorway. This way when someone runs in, they do not run PAST the explosion (done this many times) So pull that claymore away from the door for a bit, and the poor bastard is fucked.
- RPG-7 x 2 - I use to put RPG's on my machine gun rape class, but their usefulness is pretty much gone once you get claymores. Handy to shoot down a helicopter with, other than that... useless.
- Speicial Grenades x 3 - Handy to have until you get claymores.... most of the time i just forget i have 3 special grenades. Honestly, would rather have the grenade launcher.
- Frag x 3 - probably the 2nd best perk in this tier next to claymores. Use them to spam in games of Domination or Headquarters.
- Bandolier - More ammo is always good... right? Well it's pretty rare even for me when i live long enough to actually have low ammo. If i was a sniper, it could be handy... but would rather have claymores to box myself in a room. With that said... Brandolier is a 100% MUST with any sub machine gun/assault rifle if you are using the sleight of hand perk. You just burn through too much ammo, too quickly.
[edit] Perk 2 Tier
now we are getting into some useful perks.
- Juggernaut - Ahhh im the juggernaut bitch! Lots of debate whether this does a whole lot since so many people use Stopping Power anyways (and so should you) But i personally like this class in certain situations. Youll take 1 or 2 more bullets than anyone else without it, even with stopping power. This is handy... it gives you that extra micro second to find some cover or to run around a corner. Or, to just kill the other guy before you die. I Personally use this from time to time. Lots of people think this is a waste, i disagree. I find it's handy. You die a lot in this game, and every now and then juggernaut saves my ass.
- Sleight of hand - This is an amazing perk. At first i didnt like it, but this perk + auto shotgun = a must. If you are using an assault rifle or a SMG... you really have no option but to use the brandolier as your first perk. If you are in a reload war, or a small level w/ lots of blown up rooms and shit (backlot/strike) it can literally mean more kills for you. You just simply reload faster. I know lots of guys will use this perk w/ a LMG... however you get so many fucking bullets in a LMG anyways it's tough to switch this out w/ stopping power.
- Stopping power - This, bar none... should be your MOST used 2nd lvl perk. Any gun w/ stopping power = better. You should use this with almost everything. DO NOT USE THIS PERK if you are playing team hardcore. There is no point. All the weapons do more damage anyways... you are wasting this perk if you have it in team hardcore.... see below.
- UAV Jammer - I only ever use this perk if i want to be a stealthy asshole w/ a silenced weapon. UAV jammer is an absolute MUST if you are playing team hardcore or search and destroy.
- Sonic Boom - It makes things that go 'boom' into a bigger 'boom' it's pretty fucking useless... think ive used it once w/ C4 and that's about it. Total waste of a 2nd perk. You should avoid this like the plague.
- Double Tap - An interesting 'hit or miss' perk. On some guns, it's amazing... on most others, it's absolutely pointless. YMMV. Try double tap w/ a p90 and brandolier w/ sleight of hand. LOL.... you basically use a whole clip to kill someone because you are throwing so much lead at them, you didnt even realize the guy was dead after the first half second of holding the trigger down. Either way, it's an interesting perk. Use this on the slower rate of fire weapons.... it can help. DO NOT USE THIS PERK ON SINGLE FIRE ONLY WEAPONS... it's a waste, and your index finger will fucking hate you for all the individual trigger depresses. Stick with stopping power.
- Overkill - At first i was thinking "well this is pointless, ill just pick up another weapon off the ground and ditch my pistol" Then i actually started to fuck around with the perk. It's pretty handy in a more slower objective based gametype like search and destroy.
All im going to say is this: Auto shotgun w/ grip, M16 w/ grenade launcher, perk 3 is extreme conditioning. You have so much fucking firepower it's disgusting. Not only do you have the grenade launcher and the n00b friendly m16. But goddamn... when you run into a room switch to the shotgun. YOU ARE GOD. Overkill is a damn good perk... experiment with what you can do. For example... want 4 grenade launcher ammo? hehe 2 rifles w/ launchers. Use your imagination here folks.
[edit] Perk 3 Tier
this is a pretty interesting tier. Sadly, only slightly better than the first tier.
- Extreme conditioning - Probably one of the most underused perks in the game. If you really want to win at Sabotage or Headquarters. Do not take this off. Personally, i use this perk quite a bit, it's VERY VERY handy for the Run and Gun gameplay i prefer.
- Steady Aim - HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH stay away from this.
- Last Stand - In the beta, this was annoying. You learn to put a couple extra bullets into a corpse real quick. It's a novelty... however... there's that 'other' lvl 3 perk here that everyone loves much more now.
- Deep Impact - Shoot through deeper cover. All guns can shoot through thin surfaces anyways.... however, my RPD w/ deep impact will go through that cynder block wall. You do the math. This should be one of the more used perks in this tier.
- Dead Silence - Probably one of the most useful perks in this tier. Combine this w/ a silencer and a UAV jammer... YOU ARE 100% INVISIBLE on the map. You basically have free reign to run around like an idiot and murder people. I fucking love it. Shame it's such a high level unlock. This perk is a must on maps like Overgrown or in a gametype like search and destroy.
- Iron Lungs - Only good for snipers, roughly 8 seconds of steady aim. If you snipe, you use this and nothing else (once it's unlocked)
- Eavesdrop - HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH *catches breath* HAHAHAHAHh the most useless perk in the entire game. dont use it. Could be handy in a clan game of something, but who gives a shit... it's pointless.
- Martyrdom - I fucking hate you. But i also love you. Pretty sure you are all familiar with it. Do i really have to say this? Shipment + headquarters = you never live longer than a second. Neither does the enemy. That's why these games last forever... cuz you cant walk a foot without touching a fucking grenade.
[edit] Weapon Breakdown w/ Items
[edit] Assault Rifles
the most versatile class of weapons in the game. Mix and match w/ perks to increase the effectiveness of these various guns. Personally, im always rockin either a grenade launcher or claymores for the objective based games. Cuz again, most shit in Perk 1 tier sucks balls.
- AK-47 - Wow, i didnt use this gun for the longest time, now i love it. The iron sights are good, does not have as much range as the m16, but w/ stopping power, this gun is a true powerhouse if you are good with it and can handle the recoil.
- G3 - Single shot, decent sights. I just find single fire guns annoying. You can pretty much snipe w/ this gun. You rarely see anyone ever using this... use the m16 or the 36c or even the damn AK over this.
- M4 - I absolutely fucking hate this gun. The only redeeming quality of this gun is that it's fully auto. I dont find it as powerful as the m16 or the AK or the 36c... or wait... any other gun in this class.
- M16 - The second best weapon in the game IMO. Right behind the RPD. A non intrusive iron sight, the 3 round burst is odd, but damn, if you hit them w/ stopping power... they are pretty much dead. VERY accurate at a distance as well.
- G36C - Only bad thing about this gun is the iron sights. Kinda take up a bit of real estate on the screen. Other than that, i fucking love it. Accurate, decent power, full auto.... w/ the red dot it's absolutely fucking badass.
- M14 - Another single fire gun. Really accurate and it fires faster than the g3. Drops people quick.. i personally dont mind it, but id rather have something that throws more lead.
- MP44 - Lol.. seriously... this gun is absolutely horrible, and this was my GO TO gun in COD3. Im way too use to the COD3 version of the gun, you dont get this unlocked until you are near lvl 50 i believe. Stick with anything else but this, even the g3.
[edit] Shotguns
Both of these guns are better w/ the grip. Kill with them for a while, and use the grip. You will be a total fucking badass in no time. I love the shotguns. I do a LOT of killing with the shotguns, especially w/ the grip, juggernaut/sleight of hand and extreme conditioning. The key is to RUN RUN RUN, close the gap, pump a slug in em and watch them die.
- W1200 - pump action, holds a lot of ammo. Takes a bit to get use to actually. But you cant deny it's power. Once you get into a zone w/ this gun, it's pretty good..... however
- M1014 - The third best gun in the game IMO. Sure, it only holds 4 shells unlike the single player campaign where you had a whole lot. Why is that? Balance my friends. This gun is 100% fucking deadly, i HIGHLY suggest you use this in games of Headquarters or any maps w/ lots of buildings and rooms. Also using sleight of hand is almost a must, because of all the frequent loading you will be doing. I dont know HOW many times ive run into a room and cleared out 4 guys with this gun. Love this gun, learn this gun. It actually also hits at a bit of a range too.. sure you might empty your chamber on them, but they will die, and by the time you get closer you will have reloaded and he will be dead. Grip + sleight of hand + extreme conditioning means you get to places where they wont, and you can set up shop in a building and camp to your hearts content. Watch your score rack up. Trust me, get good with the auto shotgun.
[edit] Sniper Rifles
Sniping is damn hard in this game... here's what i use. Claymores, Stopping Power, and Iron Lungs. You wont get claymores for a while, so use something else in Perk 1 slot. Once you get claymores... pitch a tent, roast some smores and get killing.. and be smart, try to not stick to 1 spot... you can get away with it on some levels, but eventually you run out of claymores and morons trying to run in and kill you... sadly, that third moron will succeed. I dont snipe all that often, mainly because i find most of the guns to be pure shit.
- Dragunov - Decent power and rate of fire, better than the m21.
- M40a3 - Absolutely hate this rifle... i avoid it like the plague
- M21 - The n00b sniper rifle. Ive seen people use this almost as an assault rifle.
- Barrett M107 - 4th best gun in the game. You dont get it until lvl 49, but goddamn... it has 100% range and a STUPID amount of power. SHITLOADS of recoil though. Once i unlocked this and started to use it, i noticed how much the other guns sucked in comparison. I absolutely fucking love this gun.
- Remington 700 - The only other gun in this class worth a damn. Almost as good as the .50 cal... almost. Bolt action, it kills just as easily as the barrett, and it's much better than all the other rifles anyways.
[edit] Sub Machine Guns
Now these are a fun class of guns to use. I basically use the sub machine guns in my 'jihad' class. Sleight of hand, brandolier and martyrdom. Such a fun way to play a total run n gun suicide class.
- AK74u - The second best gun in this class if you ask me. Only thing that sucks about it is the lack of ammo. It's pretty damn powerful too. But once you unlock the p90 i doubt you will go back to this.
- MP5 - One of the most versatile guns in the game. Easy to use, easy sights, lots of ammo. Good n00b SMG.
- P90 - OOOOOOOOOOOOOOH BOY!!!!!! the #5 gun in the game IMO, probably ranks higher than that to other people. STUPID high rate of fire, STUPID amount of ammo per clip. If you aint using this gun then i dunno wtf is wrong with you... it's simply amazing and looks/sounds cool as shit.
- Skorpion - The most useless gun in the game. Horrible range, you eat through ammo though. This gun is pretty much only good on 1 map: Vacant.
- Mini Uzi - Better than the skorpion. It's actually not a bad gun, id just prefer to use others in this class that are much better.
[edit] Light Machine Guns
oooh god what a stupid powerful class of guns. This is my fall back saftey class. All 3 guns are badass. YOU SHOULD BE USING THE GRIP, STOPPING POWER, AND DEEP IMPACT. NOTHING ELSE. Who gives a fuck if people are screaming that you are a n00b and you 'spray and pray' Fuck that noise. Fact is... you be ded and i be alive. Ive racked up over 100 kills in domination and headquarters games on some maps (wetworks, bog, crash, shipment)
- M249 SAW - Best accuracy out of all 3 guns, however... it eats through ammo quicker than the others. Stupidly nice to use w/ the red dot.
- M60e4 - I AM RAMBO. Seriously.. i play this game like im a fuckin rambo movie or something. The iron sights are probably the worst in the game, but damn this gun is powerful.
- RPD - The best gun in the game. It seriously is. I think only the m16 can come close to the effective killing ratio of this beast. Ive killed people 3/4ths across bog with just 2 hits. Now that's deadly. If you want nothing but score, and you want to annoy the fuck out of the other team... this is the gun to use. It will get you kills very very fast.
[edit] General Items
If you use the ACOG scope on anything... you are a dummy. Just dont try to argue that this thing is somehow useful.. it's not. So lets get this straight... it's a scope.... and yet it REDUCES the accuracy on some guns. Seriously. Just stick with the red dot.
- Red Dot: Best addon in the game if you ask me. I use it on almost everything... just dont use it on a shotgun. LOL.
- Grenade launcher: Absolutely handy sometimes. It's great to clear out a room from half way across the map (if you are good at aiming) and it deals the pain. However, it's slow reloading on all rifles and you only get 2 shots. If you dont rely on it, it can add to your arsenal of asskickery. YMMV with your skill.
- Silencer: This is an odd addon. I absolutely fucking LOOOOOVE this thing when im in my ninja class, or in search and destroy/team hardcore. This is really a must if you are playing those modes. However, it nukes the range, and i cant really prove this, but i swear it takes some damage off your guns as well. Ive found i burn through more ammo shooting and hitting someone than i normally would without it. However, that is the price of pure invisibility.
[edit] Map's and Map Strategies
Unlike halo 3, i pretty much like almost all of the maps in almost all of the modes. You play certain maps in certain game types just so you know. Im going to describe the map, then tell you what i usually use on the map and general areas of interest... all rolled into one in no specific order.
I will also give some sniping info on the maps as well. At first i didnt think there were many great sniping maps, but the more i snipe now, the more i find more spots to hide and deal the death from a distance. Also im still generally talking about domination/tdm/headquarters. I totally play differently when it's an objective game like Search and destroy or team hardcore.
- Ambush - At first, i hated this map, however it's absolutely fun to play in all modes. If you like to snipe, this map is for you. If you start on the USMC side, instantly run forward up on the roof, claymore your ass in there and go to town. You will die up here, but you have 100% view of the road in front of you where there usually is a lot of spawning. Being 100% invisible on this map is handy, remember to use the sewers to cross under the carnage of the road.
my load outs: Assault rifle w/ grenade launcher/stopping power/extreme conditioning. sniper rifle w/ claymores, deep impact, iron lungs. *sniping spots* Both roofs that overlook the road, either end of the road overlooking the middle. There are 2 houses opposite of each other that give you a limited view from each side of the map. Not many places to hide, you will have to kill and not fuck around on this map.
- Backlot - OOOH this is a fun map in any more, but even more fun in domination or headquarters. On one side, you have a building under construction overlooking a couple empty spaces that look over towards a blown out apartment building. This is where all the action happens pretty much in TDM, in this middle area overlooking both sides. As for sniping.. it's really slim pickings here. Not many places to hide, lots of obstructed views... i suggest not sniping on this map... too small, too hectic. You will die quickly if you snipe here.
my load outs: Auto Shotgun w/ grip, sleight of hand (or juggernaut), extreme conditioning. The key is to keep moving from building to building and tearing ass. P90 w/ red dot, claymores, stopping power, martyrdom.
- Bloc - The one of two maps i dislike in this game. It's not so bad for TDM, it absolutely SUCKS in anything else. Basically, it's 2 apartment buildings overlooking a courtyard, with other buildings you run around. This map was designed to force the fight from apartment building to apartment building. Clear out the snipers, as this is a sniper map. Use a smoke grenade if you have to cross the middle. Smoke on this map is a TOTAL godsend. There are lots and lots of sniper spots on here... im sure you can figure it out.
my load outs: Barrett w/ claymores, stopping power, iron lungs ak47/g36c/m16 w/ grenade launcher, stopping power, extreme conditioning p90 w/ red dot, claymores, stopping power, martyrdom.
- Bog - VERY VERY VERY VERY unbalanced map. One side it's all open w/ some cover, other side is buildings. USMC have a total 100% DISTINCT advantage in this map in just about every game type. If im on the camel jockey side, chances are even with my badassary, i can not bring my team back from the death. If the USMC is camping their side of the map,. and they have 2-4 snipers that are good... you are fucked. Hope you brought a smoke grenade. Where to snipe. There is only 1 good sniping spot on this map, and if that bus wasnt there... you would have 100% view of EVERYTHING. This is why this map sucks. I can hide in the ditch, over by the fence... look down the entire map and kill on that side, i can look to the right and pop off people spawning IN or around the buildings. It really is an unfair map. However, in domination, i rock up the score w/ the RPD. This is either a sniper or machine gun map. Accept no substitutes. I regularly score north of 50 kills in a domination game on Bog.
my load outs: Barrett w/ claymores, stopping power, iron lungs RPD w/ Grip, stopping power, deep impact
- Countdown - Think bog, but with lots of cover. This map is like bog, because you can TOTALLY run up the score like a motherfucker. The trick to this map is to control the middle. Now why would i want to do that you may ask. Simple. Lots of cover, lots of smoke, access to everything. Use the cover to your advantage, it's pretty easy to miss people running around on this map, so be careful. It's also a VERY predictable map while playing, which is why i say stay in the middle, because not many do stay in the middle, they all like to hide on the edge or around the hangers. This is how you can fuck em up if you are sneaky. As for sniping, there are a few spots,.... one is near point A (if you are familiar with domination, you know where point A is), lots of people like sniping from UNDER the truck there, i dont like that... i like to move up and down that green grassy area down that one side. Also others like to snipe from the hangers... personally i find this to be limiting.
my load outs: Barrett w/ claymores, stopping power, iron lungs RPD w/ Grip, stopping power, deep impact m16 w/ silencer, UAV Jammer, dead silence (for when im feeling sneaky)
- Crash - We are all familiar with this map, so my advise might be a bit pointless. It's a great map in all modes. Spam is the name of the game on this map, you KNOW where people are going to run to... chuck a grenade. Chances are you will get a kill. Deep Impact on your weapons is an absolute must here. Lots of buildings, lots of cover... deep impact nullifies ALL of that. You will get plenty of kills through walls. Again, forget about the cries of "OMG N00B YOU SHOT ME THROUGH A WALL!" well duh asshole... you think im an idiot and going to run to the chopper on the ground? As for sniping, there's a few spots... you all know them.... on the grass w/ the hill at the back, almost any building you can get into you can snipe from. I personally dont like sniping on this map, i cant 'lock down' the map on my own while sniping here like i can on say Bog or Ambush. This is one of the few maps where you can be an effective spawn camper. Where the dirka dirka team spawns, that building up there... if you have some jackass that WONT LEAVE THE AREA... you will be constantly spawn camped there... so try to get away, try to not get spawn camped here... it's easy to fall into and WAAAY to easy to camp.
my load outs RPD w/ Grip, stopping power, deep impact - It's pretty much the only thing i use on this map. So should you.
- Crossfire - Another versatile map that's great in all game modes..... the map itself is laid out rather easily. It's a road... and that's it... kinda goes like a zig zag up the hill. This is a sniping and shotgun map. Why shotgun? oooh man, play headquarters here... you will understand WHY the shotguns kick ass. Many sniping spots on here, one of which is pretty useless. The obvious ones are at either end of the long road that goes up/down the hill. At the bottom of the hill there's a building w/ a ladder in it. That's a pretty good spot to lock down w/ claymores. The building at the top of the hill though... is key.. a couple snipers up there and you can really frustrate the other team. Again, if you dont snipe, try the shotgun... it's damn excellent.
my load outs Barrett w/ claymores, stopping power, iron lungs p90 w/ red dot, claymores, stopping power, martyrdom. Auto Shotgun w/ grip, sleight of hand (or juggernaut), extreme conditioning
- District - Large map, kinda hard to describe so ill do my best. There are 2 lower 'squares' in the middle of the map. With buildings and roads that connect it on the outside. Lots of fighting happens everywhere in all modes on this map. Again, i like the shotgun quite a bit here. Assault rifles and machine guns do well here. Sniping on this map? pretty much non existent... ive never tried it, it's not really a sniping map. Ive seen people snipe on here and i just think "what a waste, we could have more lead flying around than this douche with his 3 fucking kills and 10 deaths." This map is VERY VERY fun in search and destroy, very hard in domination, very fun in team deathmatch.
my load outs: Auto Shotgun w/ grip, sleight of hand (or juggernaut), extreme conditioning
- Downpour - This map is a tough tough map. Almost symmetrical with the layout, but it's not. This is an assault or SMG map to me. Great map in all modes, however, it's VERY VERY easy to die to grenade spam, but also very easy to get kills from random grenade throws. There are machine guns placements on this map on the 2 buildings (you know what they are) and it's VERY VERY VERY annoying when someone is really dominating on that thing, it really shuts down the map. Be careful here, you can get caught being spawn camped... either at point A or point C if you know your domination spots. Sniping? ive seen people do it here, ive tried it... i dont like it. Not many spots, map is too closed off at almost all places to get nice long distance snipes. Youll see guys in objective games camp at the back of Point C in the grass and snipe from there though.
my load outs p90 w/ red dot, claymores, stopping power, martyrdom. ak47/g36c/m16 w/ claymores, stopping power, extreme conditioning
- Overgrown - Another beta game. It's an ok map. It's a sniper map for sure. It's annoying map in all game modes. I like it more than bloc, but i still find this map annoying. I wont go into too much detail on anything on it... there are lots of open areas, a farm on one half, houses on the other... a dry river bed divides the areas. Assault rifles, sniper rifles, LMG's are the name of this map. The only way i enjoy myself playing this map is my Ninja class. I just dont like sniping on this map for some reason, and it IS the sniping map. With all that said, it's also a very versatile map loadout wise. It really just depends on my mood and what i want to do on this map.
my load outs ak47/g36c/m16 w/ grenade launcher, stopping power, extreme conditioning RPD w/ Grip, stopping power, deep impact Barrett w/ claymores, stopping power, iron lungs m16 w/ silencer, uav jammer, dead silence (it REALLY works well here, especially for sniper hunting on ALL game modes, not just search and destroy)
- Pipeline - One of my favorite maps.. layout wise, gameplay wise, atmosphere wise. This map has it all. Two abandoned warehouses face each other over a road, some unfinished buildings at the back, a grassy hill to snipe from up front... train tracks to one side, silos to the other.. and a complete tunnel system that can access 3 different points across all areas of the map.... hiding spaces up in the roof of the train station building... ect ect... LOTS of hiding spots on this map to snipe from, mostly from the grassy hill, or on the roof of the train station. Lots of bullets work well on this map, so machine guns, assault rifles, SMG put good use to this map. Even though i like sniping on this map, i dont do it all that much.
my load outs P90 w/ red dot, claymores, stopping power, martyrdom. Barrett w/ claymores, stopping power, iron lungs RPD w/ Grip, stopping power, deep impact
- Shipment - Smallest map in the game. Also the most annoying, ESPECIALLY in domination or headquarters. It's so damn small, YOU WILL DIE FREQUENTLY AND VERY VERY PAINFULLY WITHIN SPAWNING EVERY SECOND! If you luck out w/ an airstrike and helicopter... you are god. My record for kills on this map is 102, with the EXP from one headquarters game breaking 3k. This is a kill map, and only a kill map. This is one of the few (few? probably the only) maps where Double Tap is actually useful. Same with 3x frags..... that is if you can live long enough to even throw all of them.... honestly id rather be shooting. Tough map to play, you will die a lot, you will cry a lot, and you will love the map when it's fucking over. There is no sniping on this map. If you snipe on this map, chances are you ride the short bus to school or have someone else dress you.
This is the map where you fucking curse martyrdom every 3 seconds. my load outs RPD w/ Grip, stopping power, deep impact P90 w/ red dot, claymores, stopping power, martyrdom. (why claymores? i dunno, im too lazy to put 3x grenades on cuz you never live long enough to use them... but the p90 throws out so much ammo so fast, you will get kills)
- Showdown - Another small map. It's basically an arena of death. It shows up in headquarters games or domination. One building split in half at the edges outside. Stairs up one side, nothing on the other. I personally find this map very annoying, very spammish. My loadouts are the same as shipment. I just hate this map as much as Bloc.
- Strike - I always get this map confused with Backlot. But they are very different, they kinda look the same though, backlot is a smaller map though. Buildings everywhere on this map, shotguns are handy, however, this is another weapon versitile map like overgrown. Almost anything works here... snipers, machine guns, SMG's, shotguns.... in all modes. One thing to add though... Claymores are a must on this map. Sniping spots include the 1 building w/ the second floor that looks over both roads and the square below... you will die here though, too easy to die via Deep Impact. Real sniping spots are at the other end of the map near point C in the buildings. Also up behind point A on the road w/ the hill... No one goes up there, but damn... ive been totally fucked on this map w/ 2 snipers and a machine gunner up on that hill.... very tough situation to get out of. Beware of spawn camping on this map just about everywhere. I find this map to be quite fun, lots of people hate it. Go figure.
my load outs RPD w/ Grip, stopping power, deep impact P90 w/ red dot, claymores, stopping power, martyrdom. Assault rifle w/ claymores/stopping power/extreme conditioning.
- Vacant - Again, another small level. We all know it from the beta... i absolutely HATED this map in the beta. I thought it was shit. Well, i picked up a shotgun and now all is good. There are only 3 weapons you should be using on this map if you have them unlocked. Accept no substitutes. p90, rpd, auto shotgun.
Go nuts. If you cant rack up big kills on this map then GTFO.
- Wetworks - One of my favorite maps in the game, and probably THE only map where using nightvision can help you. It's also the LONGEST map in the game, it's mostly played in objective game modes and it's an absolute blast if you ask me. It's probably the only 100% symmetrical map in the game as well. Sniping can work well on this map, but you only have 3 options, two of which are at either end of the boat, or in the middle up on the 2nd floor of that tower. I find this map to be rather dark, especially if im trying to shoot at the SAS, you can hide in the shadows if you are the SAS and people will just run right past you. So i like the nightvision here, lots of people dont use it... i do, it helps me, it might help you.
If there's one perk that is an absolute 100% must... it's Extreme conditioning. If you are playing a headquarters or domination game on this map.. you will be dying a lot or running a lot. Extreme conditioning CAN make a difference on this map in a very huge way. my load outs p90 w/ red dot, 3x special grenades, stopping power, extreme conditioning Auto shotgun w/ grip, sleight of hand, extreme conditioning.
[edit] Final Thoughts
This is a great run and gun game as previously aforementioned. Remember it is just a game and have fun with it, mix and match weapons one would normally not put together. Why knife someone you sneak up on, when you can slap a C4 pack at their feet and blow them sky high? Looks great on their replay kill cam.
