Common elements
Each game page should have a few things in common:
- Title of the game
- Quick summary of the game
- Links to other pages or category sections that relate to the game tips and content.
- Category links at the bottom for Games, Platform, Genere, Publisher.
These common elements are now included by the Template:Game outlined below.
Sidebar Template
The sidebar template should be used for each game page. Usage and instructions can be found on the Template:Game page.
Stub Pages
Game stub pages, or pages with minimal placeholder information, should be tagged with the Game Stub template below:
{{GameStub}} Puts the GameStub template on the page
FAQ Sections
FAQ sections are encouraged but please use the following style guidelines when building a FAQ section:
==FAQ== FAQ Headline Title ===This is a question?=== First question The answer goes here... First answer ===This is a question?=== Second question The answer goes here... Second answer And so on...
The purpose of this is two-fold. It adds a FAQ section to the table of contents, as well as item listed below the FAQ section in the contents for specific questions. This would allow you to put the FAQ towards the end of the game page and people would still see the FAQ information in the contents box and be able to jump directly to it or a specific question.
Rules
Page Guidelines
Follow the page guidelines outlined above for new page creation. Any pages already created when a guideline change takes place will be updated by the community during a future edit.
Additional Pages
Additional pages should be added like the following example: Dead Rising/Achievements. This would create a page called Dead Rising/Achievements that could then be linked from the Dead Rising page.
Multiple Platform Games
Multiple platform games should have one main page that links to individual platform pages when the content of the game is different enough that it warrants separate pages. Like in the instance of Guitar Hero 2, we have a Guitar Hero 2 (Playstation 2) page as well as a Guitar Hero 2 (XBOX 360) page.
Games that are a Series
Games that are a series should follow the same convention as a multiple platform game, in that one page should contain the links to all the other games of that series. This is because Mega Man is the name of the first game of the Mega Man series. The series page would be titled Mega Man (series) which would link to each of the sequels as well as the original.
Walk-through Rules
The whole purpose of HelpMeWithMyGameProblems.com is to contain well-written and informative walk-through sections for each game, please adhere to the following guidelines when writing a walk-through.
- Use common sense with spoilers. While it is totally subjective what is and isn't a bad spoiler, please err on the side of caution when revealing plot or other game elements that might be plot twists. Basically, don't reveal boss' names or the names of a boss who might be a party member in the walk-through table of contents. Try not to reveal these types of spoilers out of order in the walk-through. While plot synopsis and skills tables may need to reveal plot spoilers, try your best to keep them out of the general walk-through table of contents.
- Be well-written. Mistakes happen. If you see a typo, fix it. But when you are creating or adding a new section please don't use Internet short-hand or other unprofessional abbreviations. Write as if you were writing a formal research paper, or as close to that as you can.
- Please don't make huge ASCII titles. Please don't write huge thank-you sections. Don't use excessive emotion icons or place copyright information on the article. This is a community based wiki. Your contributions are visible for the entire world to see on the history page, as well as the contributions of others. ASCII titles, thank-yous, and copyright information are not needed on a wiki.
Don't be an Idiot
This is probably the most important rule. Don't violate it. Ever. What actions make you an idiot? Causing a huge fight over edits, starting flame-wars on the talk page. Vandalism. Spam links. The list goes on and on, but if you follow the simple rule of being a good community member you will never violate this golden rule.
